Prótesis

Inhabiting the ruins of what was once the kitchen is the starting point for “Prótesis”. This space, which still holds ghostly vestiges of its original function —severed gas pipes, mute electrical sockets and a window onto the inner courtyard— is activated through a deep desire to complete what is missing. Understanding the kitchen as a domestic archive that guards the memory of repeated gestures, the artist fixes her gaze on the “secondary” objects.

Plugs, cables and connections take subtle material form in ceramic, occupying the void of the interrupted circuits. The proposal unfolds in pieces that speak to one another organically: screen prints acting as fictitious restorations of the old wallpaper; a suspended pipe and stove structures that, in the process of their making, took on the appearance of bones, like grafts upon the architecture of the house.

Taken together, this proposal approaches the kitchen as a fragmented body. Through these fragile, suspended pieces —material whispers— the artist creates a strange life that gives us back, for an instant, the pulse of a domestic time already extinguished.
